The Saks brand is synonymous with luxury fashion and the flagship Manhattan location has been practicing premiere retail experiences since 1924. Driven by a mission to help customers express themselves through relevant and inspiring style, Saks is viewed as a beacon for next generation shopping, customer support and international brick and mortar design.
In 2021 Saks came to international production heavyweight Done+Dusted to tackle their Holiday Window Unveiling. The event would involve an opening address from the CEO of Saks, a choreographed street performance featuring the Young People’s Chorus of NYC, a speech from Michelle Obama highlighting the Girls Opportunity Alliance, the Saks window reveal featuring 6 designs inspired by children from the Boys & Girls Club, and a Fireworks & LED light show, all taking place within a tight 20mins, right on fifth avenue.
Zach was selected by Done+Dusted to be the Director of Photography for the project. He, alongside his crew of 25 individuals, managed a 4K 6 camera live to tape technical pipeline in order to be edited and turned around in 48hrs for the Saks website. The production would involve pre-recorded interview segments around Saks, choreography with dancers, lighting department and fireworks teams, positioning for 6 camera stations including a jib and high rooftop angles, comms planning, a live feed video village for the director, clients and executive team, all coordinated for working directly in busy Manhattan streets.
The event was met with huge applause, smiling faces and holiday spirit as Saks rang in the new season with tradition and flashy entertainment. Saks Fifth Avenue’s support of the Girls Opportunity Alliance includes a generous $1 million donation, a curated multivendor merchandise collection, dedicated holiday window displays, and a Saks career-shadowing opportunity. When customers shopped a specific collection of items, 100% of the collection’s net proceeds were donated to The Obama Foundation in support of the Girls Opportunity Alliance to empower adolescent girls through education.
